January was a strange month, but it ended up being very good for my reading goals. I set myself a tbr of 6 books from my bookshelves and 4 arcs. I managed to read 5 of my owned books and 3 of those arcs, and an additional 4 other books to bring my January total to 12 books! My average rating in January was 3.57 and I had one five star read.
The other half, who played the same snakes and ladder challenge game to get a list of guitar solos to learn managed to complete 4/5 in January. He’s also horrified to discover that despite adding more dice in to roll fewer solos in February, he’s got five more to learn.
My favourite reads were Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko and The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. I’d highly recommend you pick those up. I had two DNFs, so I replaced From Unseen Fire with Grey Sister in my physical tbr challenge as the prompt was “a book with a face on the cover”. My second DNF was unfortunately an arc from an author I own another book from, so I will definitely give the second book a shot and see if I prefer it.
I didn’t manage to read two of the books I thought I’d end up giving high ratings. I made a start on City of Brass and was enjoying it, and I’d read the prequel to Bear Head and loved it. I had high hopes for both and I’d like to fit them into February if I can.
I have five books on my physical tbr, all selected for me by a game of snakes and ladders. I am particularly looking forward to Midnight at Malabar House, I remember the blurb giving me Agatha Christie energy. I also think I’ll enjoy American Gods, and once I’ve finished the book I can go on and enjoy the show that I’ve been dying to watch since it released.
And I’m so excited for all my February arcs, they all sound great and I’ve been anticipating the release of both thrillers for months. I particularly love the cover of The Black Coast, watercolour style cover art is my favourite.
I hope your January went well, and your February goes better! Let me know if you’re reading any of the same books, or which book on your tbr you’re most excited for.
