November TBR

It’s time for my reading plans for November, and I am so close to my goal of 100 books in 2020! I originally had a stretch goal of 125 books, but I don’t know if I would be able to hit that goal anymore.

I’ve been working on trying to complete some series in the last half of the year. In this stack I have a lot of penultimate and final books in series.

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern was a relatively recent purchase I wasn’t even sure if I was going to pick up. By the time I decided I wanted to read it there was only one copy in all of the Waterstones in Scotland which they ordered in for me. Currently I am at the halfway mark and absolutely loving my first book by Morgenstern. I had forgotten the blurb so when the hook of the plot was revealed I was so excited!

I had forgotten everything about The Nix when I picked it up in October, but I found the first half of the book so far to be completely engrossing. It focuses on an estranged mother-son relationship and writes with nothing holding back about how that has affected our main character. While I am enjoying the plot, the writing itself is proving to be a bit of a turn off for me.

To finish some series, I want to read The Secret Commonwealth and Ptolemy’s Gate. The prequel series to His Dark Materials has been more enjoyable to me than the original series. The original series always felt like I was missing a big secret that would make the books click for me and the plot felt directionless. I chalked it up to reading the series too young but even as an older reader they still didn’t work for me. The prequel series has none of those issues for me and the first book was really enjoyable.

And then I’d like to read the final book in the Bartimaeus trilogy, which I have been re-reading this year. This series still holds up for me and is just as funny and enjoyable as it was as a teen. I don’t remember the plot of the books so it has been great re-experiencing everything for the first time.

And then this is the next book in all of the series I am currently in the middle of reading. I’d love to continue on and read more from these series in the final two months of the year, and possibly finish them.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these books, or if you have any recommendations about which I should read first.
